Bored!

I have been wanting to redecorate a tack board I have had for years.  Since tonight I was just sitting around  I decided to turn that old tack board into a new picture board! I had previously purchased some fabric at my local fabric store so I used that to cover it up.  I found my hot glue gun and glued the fabric right on! Super easy! Once I had the fabric on, I wanted to jazz it up a little so I found some extra black ribbon I had lying around, a couple of buttons, the rest of the fabric and some felt and started gluing.  I made a flower out of the fabric and felt, I took the ribbon and made a simple cross pattern, and added buttons, and wha la! a brand new picture board with some style.  Now that this project is done, all I have to do is find a place to hang it!

Duck Tape Flowers

Who would have thought colored duck tape would be so much fun!  My sister taught me how to make duck tape flowers tonight so I had to share my fun!

All Tied Together

For Christmas I always make my two little brothers (now 6 and 9) tie blankets.  I wanted to try something a little different this year.  Instead of just picking two prints or colors and tying them together, I cut squares and made it look like a quilt!
To make one fleece tie quilt; I chose two different colors and cut 6 - 24x24 squares in each color.  I cut about 12 strips on all sides of each square and pieced them all together.  Once the squares were all tied together, I then used a large fleece piece for the backing.  I tied along the edges and Wha La! A fun blanket for my younger brothers without a sewing machine! :)

THEY LOVED THEM!

Playing with cards

My boyfriend is really into playing cards so I decided to make something special for his birthday related to cards.  I searched and searched for ideas and came across a small box made of cards.  I thought this idea was really neat.  I wanted to make the box larger though in order to put other presents in it.  SOOOOOO.....I went out and bought about 5 decks of cards and got started.  I interlocked the cards together until I got the size box I wanted.  I then made a lid with a latch.  I had cards left over so I interlocked more cards to make a card card :)  When it was all said and done I added a few decks of playing cards and a bag of m&ms to the box.  It was a pretty sweet present for a card lover.

It's a secret

This is a secret...A SECRET STASH BOX!  oh was I too loud?

I made a couple of these for my boyfriend for his bookshelf.  It looks like plain old books on a shelf, but if you look closely you can see the hidden box.  The first one I made was very difficult.  First off I went to my local thrift store and bought a bunch of random fun titled hard cover books (only 25c and piece) to use.  Then I went to the hobby store and bought a wooden box (of course with a coupon). I like saving money.  I didn't have much of a plan when it came to making this project because I wasn't quite sure how I was going to cut the books just for the book ends.  I ended up taking a mat cutter and cutting through the cover and then all the pages in order to get the book ends.  It was a mess! BUT I did it.  I cut through 7 books.  After cutting through all the books I glued them to the box in order to make them look like plain old books that would sit on a shelf.  I took the time to add a little detail to the box and books in order to cover up my mechanics.  I thought it turned out pretty cool over all.
The Second one I made was easier, not less time consuming, but easier.  Instead of killing my hand with all that cutting, I only cut the cover and then cut off the binding.  I inserted a foam material to help keep the shape of the book end so it was not flimsy.  I then glued everything together.  I also used a smaller box this time so I could put books on the outside edges in order to hide the box better unlike the first one I made where you can see the sides.  I think this one turned out pretty good.  I want to make another one!

I am excited to now use all of the book pages I have left over! There are some pretty neat crafts you can do with book pages.  Until next time....

Silhouettes on Canvas

I wanted to share this project.  I got this idea from Pinterest.com.  There were a lot of cute ideas, but I wanted to make it my own, so I used a really cute print that I like a lot called "First Kiss" and painted the silhouettes on canvas.  I added an umbrella since it was  raining and added my own bench since in the real print they are sitting on steps.  With a glue gun and some different colored blue crayons I dripped them on the canvas to make it look like it was raining.  It was a fun project, but hard to do.  I now need to find a nice frame for it so I can hang it up. :)
